Weekend at the Downing Mountain Lodge

With the outbreak of winter, we took advantage of the opportunity and went to the lodge for the weekend. It was cold and snowy and we enjoyed sledding, skiing, board games, hot tubbing, and cooking food together. There was about a foot of fresh snow at the lodge and about 15-18 inches on the upper mountain. With a four foot base above 7,500′ we are well ahead of average for upper elevation snowpack. We could use some more below 6,000′ due to last week’s unseasonally warm and moist rain events at lower elevations. The snow pack is strong with no signs of instability noted. With snow showers expected all week, it should be a good time to get out and ski.
