4-28-11 Downing Mountain

Back skiing after the holiday weekend with family and found good, cold dust on crust about 2-4 inches deep. Some places on the north side trees still had an unconsolidated snowpack, otherwise mostly crusts under the new snow from last night’s and today’s morning storm. With that poke into the mountains scouting conditions, I am thinking about heading into the deeper mountains later this week.  The temps were cold today with the powder staying fresh to 6000′ and no sun effect today at all. Tomorrow should have powder still before the temps rise too much. This weekend is looking good with perhaps a high pressure window on Sunday. Saturday is the pole paddle pedal festival at Lost Trail Pass. I hope to make it and compete in the solo class. It might be cold biking down the mountain to Sula!
